EXpats in lockdown SERIES
Expats in Lockdown is a special series which I ran during Spring 2020 to stay sane during the lockdown while living in Denmark.
The series is a collection of stories of how expats around the world learned to cope with the lockdown and the unique challenges it posed for their life abroad.
Living abroad during the coronavirus outbreak has taught me some essential truths about expat life and what it’s all about. In this post I wrap up the Expats in Lockdown series with my reflections on living abroad.
Belgian expat living in Cairo gets stuck in Belgium after only coming to visit for the weekend. While feeling grateful for being closer to family during the coronavirus lockdown, she reflects on what she’s learned about herself during her three years as an expat in Cairo.
Kenyan-British expat and adult third culture kid living in Germany reflects on cultural differences between Europe and Africa while dealing with the coronavirus outbreak, and the impact the closed borders has had on her travel company, Swahili Secrets.
#6 Expats in Lockdown: When having to stay at home is just business as usual (Canadian-British in Spain)
British-Canadian expat in lockdown in Spain on running a business during the coronavirus outbreak and not seeing much of a lifestyle difference since the lockdown.
Intercultural coach and British expat shares how she manages uncertainty after having newly moved to Mexico. It’s a move she had been planning for several years, only to have the world upside down a month after arriving.
Canadian expat reflects on coronavirus conspiracy theories and Hong Kong’s measures against the second wave of coronavirus.
An Italian expat in lockdown in Denmark reflects on losing her job, her family being very close to the virus back in Italy and the freedoms she used to take for granted as an expat.
An American expat turned lovepat wonders about the very different responses to the virus’s spread around Europe while grappling with different mindsets in her own social circle.
This is the first story in this special series about expats in lockdown around the world and how we’re all dealing with it in the best way that we can. This Portuguese expat in Denmark finds himself split between his life in Denmark and his family back home, as well as suddenly learning to work from home.
